Audition Information

Please come prepared to work in the mascot costumes, improv and have some fun!

We are hoping to fill the remaining spot with one more JOE BRUIN!

Notification of Selection:

The names of persons selected for the UCLA Spirit Squad will be posted on the at UCLA Spirit Squad Website after all audition sessions have been completed.

Minimum Qualifications for Auditions:

  1. Proof of admission into UCLA:
  2. Current UCLA student, have an overall GPA of 2.5 or above.
  3. Current UCLA student, not on disciplinary probation.
  4. Sufficient physical fitness, strength, and athletic skills to perform the activities described below.
  5. Have health/hospitalization insurance in an amount comparable to the minimum coverage offered through the University’s student insurance program.
  6. Have completed the Spirit Squad Audition Application.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I tryout to be a member of the UCLA Spirit Squad if I am not currently on my high school/junior college spirit squad?
Everyone is welcome to audition for the UCLA Spirit Squad. While experience is strongly encouraged, it is not mandatory.

Can you send me information regarding your program or auditions mailed to me?
We currently do not have any printed literature regarding our program or the audition process. We have worked very hard to provide all pertinent information regarding our program and the audition process right here on our website.

When and where are tryouts?
The information regarding dates and locations for tryouts is provided in a link located on the very top of this page or you can just click on appropriate links to the right.

you offer scholarships or out of state tuition waivers?
Unfortunately at this time, we do not have scholarship opportunities for the UCLA Spirit Squad. UCLA has multiple scholarships, grants and loan opportunities through their Financial Aid office. We currently DO NOT provide out of state tuition waivers.

I need an invitation to attend auditions?
You DO NOT need an invitation to attend auditions.

Can I tryout for multiple squads?
If more than one squad interests you, you are welcome to audition for multiple teams. You will be encouraged to attend all of the clinics leading up to auditions. Following your final audition, you will be asked to list your squad preference — should you make more than one team.

Does the program compete at nationals?
Historically, the Cheer Squad, Dance Team and Mascots have successfully competed at USA College Nationals in Las Vegas. Competing at Nationals will be contingent upon university approval and funds.

What time do I show up to the clinics?
We recommend that everyone attending a clinic show up a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time.

Is there a height and weight requirement?
No!! We do not maintain a height and weight requirement. We do require that all potential members maintain the appropriate physique in order to participate in the required movements.

Are auditions open to the public?
Yes, auditions are open to the general public.

I need to have a physical completed by a physician?
No, you do not need to have a physical completed for the audition process. Should you be chosen for the squad, you will be required to have a physical completed before August 15th.

How many people tryout?
The number of individuals that tryout for one of our groups vary from year to year. On average we have:
